Do you relax with your favourite alcoholic drink after a long day at work and then enjoy a glass with dinner?

Don’t think you’re bigger than alcohol if you drink on a daily basis, the chances are you’re not!

Regular, heavy drinking interferes with chemicals in the brain that are vital for good mental health. So while you might feel relaxed after a drink, in the long run alcohol has an impact on your mental health and can contribute to feelings of depression and anxiety, and make stress harder to deal with.

Relying on alcohol to mask anxiety could also lead to a greater reliance on it to relax. A likely side-effect of this is the increased risk of building up a tolerance to alcohol. Over time you will need to drink more alcohol to get the same feeling. And, in the medium to longer term, this pattern often leads to alcohol dependence.

Like many things enjoying an alcoholic drink at the end of the day can quickly become a habit. One glass may lead to another and another.

What do you regret🤔
Everyone has things they wish they hadn’t said or done in the past, and the feelings can stay with you, into the present and the future.

Regret can be mixed with other emotions such as shame, embarrassment or guilt. Quite often regret can cause sorrow too.

Failure and mistakes are learning opportunities, they can make us more resilient. What about regret of missed opportunities like a holiday, or a relationship you could have been in, or a home you wished you’d bought.

If you dwell on the past and what could have been or what you missed out on, it can become quite depressing. Sitting there and asking yourself “Why did I to that?” Hindsight really is a wonderful thing.

😳stress makes you fat🥺
Recently researchers uncovered how chronic stress in combination with high-calorie diets can amplify our brain’s reward system, driving overeating and weight gain.

Here are a few facts;
Chronic stress coupled with a high-calorie diet leads to overeating and increased cravings for sweet, palatable food, contributing to weight gain.

This is due to stress overriding the brain’s lateral habenula, a region that typically dampens the reward signals associated with eating.

Mice models showed that stressed mice on a high-fat diet gained twice as much weight as non-stressed mice on the same diet.

Alison was always stressed, though she was eating healthily but was still gaining weight. She got in touch with me and we had a call.

Alison often skipped breakfast or lunch even though she was hungry. She ate cereal bars, drank lots of fruit juice and swam once a week. Her sleep was broken and she always felt tired so she went to see her GP. Her bloods showed she was pre type 2 diabetic.

Here’s what we did:
I personalised my Freedom weight management program to fit in with her work and family life. She looked at providing healthy nutritious meals for herself and her family, smaller portions and started drinking plenty of water. Alison started walking for 30 minutes 3 days a week, swimming twice a week and one park run on a weekend.

16 weeks on and 36lbs (14.5kg) lighter Alison looks and feels a totally different person. She is sleeping well, has plenty of energy and feels more confident and happy thanks she has for many many years.

First thing is stop, breathe deeply and slowly -ground yourself. Focus on what you can see, hear, smell and touch.

During the day if you’re not working get rid of the mind clutter by doing some exercise. Either getting out into the fresh air for a walk or bike ride. How about getting to the gym for a workout or an exercise class.

During exercise you enter an altered state that can be a form of self hypnosis, getting into a rhythm - going with the flow, where mind and body work as one. The endless chatter pauses, which is such a relief. You become more mindful and can de-clutter your head.

The benefits of exercise far outweigh the excuses of not exercising. You will feel so much better, physically and mentally and it only needs to be for 30 minutes or more.

Alternatively put a cushion over your face and scream into it, remove the cushion, take a deep breath and do it again - it releases tension. Usually 2 or 3 screams will help you feel better.

Us humans need to vent, physically and vocally - in a safe way.

Try to be more patient and tolerant of family and friends. Step out of any situation that’s getting too much for you, pause and take some deep breaths - ground yourself.

How are you feeling? Are you feeling a bit like a sponge that has been squeezed out so many times you feel like you’ve nothing else to give?

Children are back to school and it’s a return to normality. For those whose children are grown up, more traffic at peak times and less crowds during the day when you’re out an about.

Is it time to focus on you now, how you feel both physically and mentally? Time to get back on track with your exercise and healthy eating plan, time to feel more like you. September can be a good time to re-start or re-set.

Your thoughts impact on how you feel right now and happiness is a choice! Everything you do, eat, drink and how you feel are all choices. Now may be the time to make changes to be a healthier, more confident and happier you.

You can change your thoughts and mindset from negative to positive. Just live life one day at a time, today is the only time you’re in control. Don’t look to the future and the what if’s and buts which cause worry and anxiety.

Happy people face challenges too and ask themselves what they can learn from them. At the end of the day, before you go to sleep acknowledge what you actually got done during the day. You may be surprised by how much you did and achieved.

If you use a To Do List, try to put only 6 things on it. Don’t set yourself up to fail by having a huge list that you will never complete. It’s more satisfying to cross things off a list and have a sense of achievement rather than juggling too many balls and dropping them all.

Being happy can lower your blood pressure and lead to feeling calm and content. It can also cause negativity to dissipate quickly. Happiness and health can be linked via optimism.

Distressed to de-stressed😌
Anxious and stressed to calm, confident and in control, easily and effortlessly.

These are my top tips for how I love my life and they work so well.

Today is the only time you’re in control of time, be wise how you spend it. Don’t look to the past, you can’t change it. Worrying about the future just causes anxiety and stress. Live your life just for today.

Exercising on a daily basis benefits your physical and mental health. 30 minutes exercise for exercise sake, getting your heart rate elevated and slightly out of breath.

Eat only if you’re hungry, don’t force yourself to eat because it’s a meal time. Eat small healthy meals and more often if you are truly hungry. Tune into your body, listen to what it’s telling you. Stray hydrated with water, sometimes we mistake hunger when we are dehydrated.

Practise breathing from your stomach. Breathe in through your nose for a count of 4, hold for 2 and breathe out through your mouth for a count of 7z repeat up to 19 times. This kind of breathing stimulates the vagus nerve and activates the relaxation response of the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system.

Have a good night time routine and try to get 7 hours or more of sleep.

These 5 things have worked for me for over 25 years. They are simpler and effective to put into place.

It’s September and we are into autumn, the spiders start coming into our homes and we run away screaming at the sight of them.

Time off❓
I am taking my own advice and having a few days off. Time to look after myself, time to wind down and relax, clear my mind.

I have had a busy few months working 1-1 with clients whilst I have completed a course and I’m feeling drained and tired.

So, I will be taking long walks and chilling out as well as enjoying some good healthy meals. Getting more sleep is on the agenda too.

I am starting to see an increase in the number of men seeking help with their mental health. The stigma about seeking help is becoming less apparent, slowly.

I am proud to share that I have just completed and passed Level 2 Awareness in Men’s Mental Health. I am hoping to start Level 3 in during the winter months.

Understanding Anxiety🥺
Today, I wanted to shed some light on what anxiety can look like because it's important to recognise that it affects people in different ways.

It's a topic close to my heart, and I hope this helps you have a better understanding and some compassion.

💭 Racing Thoughts:
One manifestation of anxiety could be having a constant whirlwind of thoughts -- worry, self-doubt, and fear. It can be tough to quiet the mind and find peace during these moments.

💔 Physical Symptoms:
Anxiety often presents itself physically, such as a racing heart, sweaty palms, shallow breathing, or an upset stomach. These symptoms can be incredibly uncomfortable and unsettling.

😔 Social Withdrawal:
Some people with anxiety may tend to isolate themselves as social situations can trigger feelings of overwhelming stress and unease. They might need extra time and understanding to feel comfortable and included.

🤔 Overthinking Everything:
Anxiety can cause someone to overanalyse the smallest details, leading to second-guessing decisions or excessively worrying about potential outcomes. This constant overthinking can be mentally exhausting.

😬Masking it with a Smile:

Tired of being tired⁉️
How are you sleeping?
Good, bad, not at all, get to sleep and wake up or struggle to get off to sleep?

Lack of sleep impacts on mental and physical health, it can cause all sorts of issues.

Sleep deficiency is linked to many chronic health problems, including heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, obesity, and depression. Sleep deficiency is also linked to a higher chance of injury in adults, teens, and children.

A lack of sleep can impact on short term and long term memory. Chronic sleep deprivations can cause anxiety which can lead to depression.

Here are 3 things you can do to get better sleep.
1 Eat foods that support sleep. Foods that have magnesium and tryptophan in, chicken, oily fish and oats, chickpeas and avocado.
2 Manage your alcohol intake as it causes disruption to sleep-cycle stages, dehydration and loos visits during the night.
3 Stress is probably one of the biggest causes of lack of sleep. Find out what causes you stress and keep a notebook by your bed to write down anything you’re worried about, get it out of your head.

Hypnosis is hugely effective in helping you to get back to a normal sleep pattern, this improves your mental and physical wellbeing. I remember working with a lady some years ago who maybe had 2 nights a week where she slept for over 3 hours. After a few sessions with me, she went to at least 5 nights a week of 5-7 hours sleep - a massive improvement.

For example, if anxiety or depression is the source of your insomnia, hypnosis for sleep may complement your existing treatment. Overcoming these issues may then help to improve your sleeping pattern.

Alternatively, if a habit is causing your insomnia (such as alcohol) hypnotherapy can support you to break this habit.

Simple and easy tips that you can do each and every day to help you on your weight loss journey.

1 - Stay hydrated! Drinking water before meals can help reduce calorie intake and boost metabolism. Aim for at least 8 cups a day.

Did you know⁉️
The average person experiences hypnosis at lease twice a day.

This could be arriving at your destination with no memory is driving there or zoning out whilst reading a book.

Officially hypnosis has been around since the 18th century when Franz Mesmer spent much of his career studying hypnosis.

You are completely awake during hypnosis, it’s a natural state of mind and hypnosis is an accepted form of medical treatment since 1950’s.

Some earliest recorded descriptions of hypnosis date back to 1500 B.C. in ancient Egypt.

Hypnosis can be used as anaesthesia for pain management.

It is impossible to be stuck in a hypnotic trance and hypnosis feels different to different people.

Your brain works differently whilst in a state of hypnosis. It turns the desire to ask questions off and the brain goes into a state of hyper awareness.

Lastly you can hypnotise yourself by practising self hypnosis.

😰Head about to explode😫
You mind is overflowing with thoughts, fears and worries and you’re feeling overwhelmed and stressed.

How do you sort it, and empty your head?
How do you switch off and relax?

During the day now if you’re not working get rid of the mind clutter by doing some exercise. Either getting out into the fresh air for a walk or bike ride or doing some resistance exercises at home or Online classes.

During exercise you enter an altered state that can be a form of self hypnosis, getting into a rhythm - going with the flow, where mind and body work as one. The endless chatter pauses, which is such a relief. You become more mindful and can de-clutter your head.

The benefits of exercise far outweigh the excuses of not exercising. You will feel so much better, physically and mentally and it only needs to be for 30 minutes or more.

Alternatively put a cushion over your face and scream into it, remove the cushion, take a deep breath and do it again - it releases tension. Usually 2 or 3 screams will help you feel better 🤗

Us humans need to vent, physically and vocally - in a safe way. Over the next couple of weeks try to be more patient and tolerant of family and friends. Step out of any situation that’s getting too much for you, pause and take some deep breaths - ground yourself.

Are you body confident⁉️
When did you last love the way you looked in your clothes?

Sunday anxiety is a killer😱
That Sunday night feeling of stress or dread that many people experience as they prepare for the start of a new work week on Monday.

This anxiety can be caused by a variety of factors such as the anticipation of a busy or overwhelming schedule, uncompleted tasks from the previous week, or the feeling of losing freedom and independence after a relaxing weekend.

Additionally, the fear of not being able to sleep well the night before the first day of work can further exacerbate this anxiety.

Strategies to combat Sunday night anxiety include planning ahead, practicing stress-reducing techniques such as meditation or yoga, and setting realistic expectations for yourself for the week ahead.

If you have a to do list, only put 6 things on in order of priority. The little things will tend to disappear.

Remember your thoughts impact on how you feel, which impacts on how you act, react or perceive your world. Beware the thoughts you allow to dwell in your mind.
